Ethical Sourcing
Licensed and Responsible Mining
DINIDU sources gemstones from licensed miners and gemstone dealers regulated by the National Gem and Jewellery Authority. Over the years, we have built long-standing partnerships with responsible miners across Sri Lanka, while operating our own mines under strict regulatory oversight. By conscientiously authenticating and overseeing these relationships, we ensure every gemstone is sourced through a transparent and ethical supply chain.
Our partnerships also extend to responsible land stewardship, advocating for the careful rehabilitation of mined land towards agricultural use once operations conclude, minimising environmental impact and supporting the restoration of local ecosystems.
We are also committed to the use of fairmined gold and silver, ensuring that the metals we source come from mining operations that meet rigorous environmental, social and labour standards. This affirmation guarantees that each of our jewellery pieces is crafted from materials mined responsibly, supporting both sustainable practices and local communities.
Ethical Sapphire Treatment
Heating is a widely recognised ethical practice used to enhance the natural colour of sapphires. DINIDU sources Ceylon sapphires using internationally approved heat treatment methods developed by industry experts at Punsiri Gems. Using natural gas and electricity, the process responsibly enhances the stone’s colour and clarity, while maintaining its natural integrity. This technique is particularly important for Sri Lankan blue sapphires, allowing their brilliance and colour to reach their full potential.
Conflict-Free Diamonds
All diamonds sourced by DINIDU follow internationally recognised standards for ethical sourcing, including the Kimberley Process, which guarantees that each diamond is conflict-free, respects human rights and is mined with minimal environmental impact. Further, we follow the Best Practice Principles established by industry leaders such as De Beers, which promote ethical conduct and ensure that the diamond supply chain is free from exploitation. These measures assure that every DINIDU diamond meets global standards for responsible sourcing.
Certified Authenticity
Every DINIDU diamond is authenticated and meticulously selected for its exceptional quality, brilliance and conflict-free origins. DINIDU provides internationally recognised certification for diamonds and coloured gemstones, including:
- GIA certification for natural diamonds above 0.25 carats.
- IGI certification for lab-grown diamonds above 0.25 carats.
- A Sri Lankan gem certification for coloured gemstones.
- An in-house certificate for the complete jewellery item.
Conscious Innovation
Lab-Grown Diamonds
With a focus on conscious design and craftsmanship, DINIDU provides lab-grown diamonds as an alternative to our signature natural diamond jewellery.Â
Lab-grown diamonds offer several advantages, including:
- Greater affordability in comparison to natural diamonds.
- Identical chemical composition and brilliance in comparison to natural diamonds.
- Greater control over colour, clarity and quality outcomes.
- Guaranteed ethical origins and free from conflict sourcing.
- Reduced environmental impact.
Precision Designs and Reduced Waste
We use advanced CAD jewellery design technology to develop each custom-made piece before production. This process allows designers to refine proportions, settings and gemstone placement digitally, reducing unnecessary material waste and supporting more sustainable jewellery production.
Preserving Heritage Craftsmanship
Despite our application of new technologies, traditional craftsmanship remains at the core of our process. Many finishing techniques, stone settings and intricate design elements still require the skill and artistry of experienced jewellers and they continue to remain at the centre of the crafting process.
Empowering Communities
Artisan-Centred
Production
All our jewellery is crafted in-house, keeping skilled Sri Lankan artisans at the heart of design and creation. This approach preserves local craftsmanship while upholding strict quality standards. Our production adheres to labour policies aligned with the International Labour Organisation and the National Gem and Jewellery Authority, ensuring safe working conditions, fair wages and ethical employment practices.
Skill Development and
Training
As part of our initiative to preserve and develop craftsmanship processes, both new and traditional, DINIDU regularly offers professional training for its skilled artisans and staff, including;
- Monthly workshops led by industry consultants.
- Technical training in jewellery manufacturing.
-Ongoing professional development opportunities.
Supporting Employees
and Their Families
DINIDU reinvests in its workforce through meaningful support initiatives to give back and strengthen the Ratnapura mining communities. These include:

Environmental Responsibility
Solar-Powered Factories
Responsible Material and Chemical Management
Sri Lanka maintains strict regulations regarding jewellery alloys and chemical safety. In alignment with the Sri Lanka Assay Office hallmarking system, DINIDU ensures that all jewellery meets national fineness standards and prevents the use of harmful metals such as nickel, lead and cadmium. These regulations help ensure that jewellery remains safe for both wearers and the environment.
Sri Lanka has also phased out many hazardous chemicals historically used in jewellery production. Under national environmental initiatives, jewellery brands including DINIDU have transitioned to safer mercury-free gilding/ refining and cyanide-free plating solutions, with necessary waste management protocols to protect surrounding ecosystems.
Zero-Plastic Policy
DINIDU has implemented a plastic-free policy across all sites, offices and boutiques. From packaging to daily operations, we actively minimise single-use plastics, reflecting our commitment to environmental sustainability.
